Privacy Policy for “Don't Be A Twat”
This Privacy Policy applies to the “Don't Be A Twat” Android mobile application (the “App”), developed by Paul B (the “Developer”).
1. Introduction
This policy explains how your information is collected, used, and protected when you use the App.
2. Information Collection and Use
To provide its core functionality of preventing texts to specific people during an active restriction session, the App requires certain permissions.
A. Contacts Permission (READ_CONTACTS)
- Why we need it: The App requires access to your contacts so you can select and create a “Whitelist” of approved contacts (people you are allowed to message while a session is active).
- How we use it: The contact list is only read locally on your device to display the selection screen.
- Data Storage: The IDs of the contacts you whitelist are saved locally on your device's internal storage. We do not upload, transmit, or share your contact list with anyone.
B. Accessibility Service API (BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE)
- Why we need it: The App uses the Android Accessibility Service API to monitor the screen when you open supported messaging applications (such as SMS, WhatsApp, Messenger, etc.).
- How we use it: The Accessibility Service is used strictly to read the name or phone number of the person you are currently messaging. If the contact is not on your Whitelist during an active session, the App uses the Accessibility Service to perform a “Back” action, preventing you from sending the message.
- Data Security & Privacy: We do not read, record, collect, or transmit the contents of your private messages or your screen. The service only scans for contact names/numbers to match against your local whitelist. Once the app is closed or the session ends, no record of your messaging activity is kept.
3. Data Sharing and Disclosure
Because we do not collect any personal data off your device, we do not share, sell, or disclose your personal information to any third parties, advertising networks, or analytics providers.
4. Data Retention and Deletion
All app data (including your whitelisted contacts and active session timers) is stored locally on your device. You can delete this data at any time by clearing the App's storage in your device's Settings or by uninstalling the App.
5. Children's Privacy
These Services do not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Thus, you are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
